It Started With a Simple Thought: We Can Help

The Story Behind Vantage Threat Solutions

In March 2023, the tragedy at The Covenant School in Nashville became a defining moment for a group of professionals who believed their experience could help.

In the days that followed, that belief sparked a conversation about how decades of our experience across U.S. Special Operations and the Intelligence Community could be applied to a new mission: helping protect schools, places of worship, and the communities they serve. That conversation would ultimately lead to the creation of Vantage Threat Solutions.

We had spent our careers working in complex environments where understanding threats and identifying vulnerabilities was critical to protecting people and assets. Watching another tragedy unfold at a school, the conversation turned to a simple thought:

We know how to do this. We can help.

The mission was different, but many of the principles were the same: understand the environment, identify vulnerabilities before they can be exploited, recognize how security measures work together, and prepare people to respond when it matters most.

Our team began asking what it would look like to take the experience developed over decades of service and apply it closer to home.

What if those skills could help a school see its campus differently? What if they could help a place of worship identify a vulnerability that had gone unnoticed? What if experience gained protecting some of our nation’s most sensitive interests could now be used to help protect children, educators, families, and communities?

Those questions became part of the foundation for Vantage Threat Solutions.

Today, VTS brings that same operational mindset to schools, places of worship, and organizations through Threat and Vulnerability Assessments, remediation planning and project management, training, tabletop exercises, and technology. Our team looks at security from both perspectives: how someone might identify and exploit a vulnerability, and how a protector can anticipate and address it. The goal is not to create fear, but to help leaders better understand their risks, prioritize improvements, and take practical steps to strengthen their security.

And the goal has remained simple.

We want children to be able to learn in environments where their safety has been thoughtfully considered. We want educators to be able to focus on their students. We want people to be able to gather and worship without security concerns overshadowing why they are there.

VTS represents a new chapter for our team, but the mission behind the work is familiar.
